E-Book Project History

The Engineers' Book (E-Book) project began as a Dean's Student Advisory Committee (DSAC) venture during the 1994-1995 schoolyear. The committee noted that other engineering universities in the region produced a calendar book or an organizer containing information geared toward engineering students. DSAC felt that the Engineering Council at the University of Illinois should pursue a similar project, feeling that such an organizer would be beneficial to the student body.

During the 1995-1996 schoolyear, the Engineering Council Publicity Committee printed the first E-Book. The committee received enough corporate support to print 4,000 copies. All 4,000 copies were distributed free of charge to the engineering student body at our Quad Day, Engineer's Night, and through Follett Energy Squared.

Over the past six years, the E-Book committee received generous corporate support and has printed a sufficient number of books to have been distributed free of charge to the entire engineering student body.

The cost of producing the E-Book is the primary constraint on the project. The use of colored ink, advanced printing processes, bindings and covers are budget-dependent options. It is the E-Book committee's primary objective to continue distributing the E-Book free of charge to over 6,000 engineering students and faculty at the University of Illinois. We hope that the sale of advertising space in our publication will allow us to raise the funds needed to achieve this goal.

Thus far, the student response to the E-Book has been overwhelming. With your support, we hope to continue to provide a quality product to the University of Illinois engineering student body.
